Safeguarding policy
1. Purpose and Scope
This safeguarding policy outlines the commitment of GMH Education to protect the welfare of children and young people. It applies to all tutors, staff, and volunteers associated with GMH Education who work with students under the age of 18.
2. Responsibilities
All tutors at GMH Education have a duty of care to safeguard children and young people. This includes maintaining an up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and completing regular safeguarding training. Tutors must be vigilant in identifying and reporting any concerns regarding a child’s safety or well-being.
3. Recruitment
GMH Education ensures that all tutors and staff undergo appropriate background checks, including DBS certification. New recruits must provide references and complete safeguarding induction training before commencing work.
4. Reporting Concerns
Tutors must report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the designated safeguarding lead (DSL – Georgia Hansford) at GMH Education. In the absence of the DSL, concerns should be reported to the local authority safeguarding team (https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/children-young-people-contact ) or the NSPCC (https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/reporting-abuse/nspcc-helpline/) .All concerns must be documented and handled confidentially.
5. Safe Practice Guidelines
Tutors must adhere to professional conduct standards, especially during one-to-one or online sessions. Tutoring should not take place in bedrooms, and a parent or guardian should be present for younger children. Communication with students must remain professional and appropriate at all times.
6. Training and Updates
All tutors are required to complete safeguarding training annually. GMH Education will review and update this policy regularly to reflect changes in legislation and best practices.
